To'Nea Miller
To'Nea Nicole Miller — "Nikki," or "Rose" to friends — was 27 years old. She was born in Flint, Michigan, raised in Lansing, and had moved to Florida in early 2026; her sister writes that she was working independently, supporting herself, and building a new life, and that her one trip back to Michigan that year was for their mother's funeral. In an April 2026 video, her sister says, Miller spoke about why she would never take her own life.
For nearly a week after her death, there was no official public statement at all: her name circulated on social media under #JusticeForTonea while news outlets stayed silent. A local television reporter, CBS News Miami's Tania Francois, took up the case after messages from the public, and only after her inquiries did the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office publicly address the death — concluding there was no evidence of foul play and that the circumstances were consistent with suicide. Her sister disputes that conclusion and is raising money for an independent autopsy; her aunt has said the opposite, on the record. This file records what each of them — and the Sheriff's Office — has placed on the public record.
Biographical details are drawn from the family's public statements, principally the GoFundMe statement written by Terri Miller and the reporting of Hy-Lo News, a Miami outlet covering Black South Florida.
